Each spring, beginning in mid-April thru mid-May, chapter volunteers are on the road 45 minutes before sunrise. Each drives a pre-determined 10 mile route, stopping every half mile to listen and record on plat book maps, the location of crowing roosters. This data is supplied to the local DNR biologists as part of an ongoing study, to determine the overall health and population densitites of Ring-necked pheasants in Winnebago County. Routes are generally finished 1 to 1.5 hours after sunrise.
